Today, Rainier Industries is a uniquely positioned custom manufacturer with plants located in Washington State and North Carolina. With over 200,000 square feet of manufacturing space and approximately 300 employees, the company has come a long way from its downtown Seattle storefront and seven employees!

Rainier Industries is composed of three divisions – Display, Shade and Shelter – along with a number of subdivisions. Rainier now makes a variety of products that improve lives and lifestyles. From wall tents, yurts and cottages to retractable power screens and awnings, branded environments and experiential marketing elements, commercial tents, marine and industrial products, Rainier utilizes visionary creativity, unique engineering and precision manufacturing to make the best Display, Shade and Shelter solutions.

Where Quality is Timeless!

Founded as Puget Sound Tent & Duck in 1896, the company provided tents and supplies to the prospectors headed north to the Alaskan Gold Rush. A former employee, George Schaffer was hired as general manager when he returned from WWI in 1918. Soon after, Schaffer purchased the company and owned/operated it until the Seattle World’s Fair opened in 1962. That year, when the company was sold to Albert Cox and Robert B. Campbell, they changed the company’s name to Puget Sound Tent & Awning, where it operated on 3rdAvenue in downtown Seattle.

Bob’s son, Scott Campbell founded Western International Seafood’s Ltd (WISL) in 1978 and in 1984, WISL purchased Puget Sound Tent & Awning, subsequently also changing WISL’s name. The company grew again in 1985 when Scott purchased Seattle Tent & Awning, the largest competitor.

Our name, Rainier Industries, was inspired by the Rainier Wall Tent, which was first sold in 1897 by Seattle Tent. This among others, was the first of 18 acquisitions under Scott’s leadership that would create the company we are today.

The Boeing’s Gold Tooling Performance Award - Q4 2020

The Rainier team is pleased to announce that we have received a gold performance rating for the last business quarter of 2020. To achieve this status, Rainier has maintained a gold level in management, quality, schedule, technical, and cost of indirect supply chain in correlation with Boeing. Boeing evaluates each supplier based on key elements such as communication, on-time delivery, hardware that meets drawing requirements, to name a few. The gold status reflects on Rainier Industries ability to meet specific criteria 100% of the time.

Rainier Industries has supplied Boeing Protective Parts, Boeing Wing Tents, Ductwork, and Nose Tie Downs for over 100 years. As a company with 125 years of experience designing and engineering technical fabric productions, we are honored to receive this award. Brian Rowinski, Vice President of Rainier Shelter said, “I am extremely proud of our Rainier team.
