We started out in 1896, supplying rugged canvas tents to prospectors during the Klondike Gold Rush.
For the next several decades, business was good. We continued building tents and the company grew little by little.
Then the government called, in need of tents and tarps for the troops during World War II. We grew some more.
Our current president and owner, Scott Campbell, took the reins in 1984. Under his leadership, the company has grown more and faster, by building a strong team, expanding our product offerings, and strategic acquisitions.
In 1985, Scott acquired Seattle Tent & Awning, which was established in 1897, and was our largest competitor.
Camp Lewis Tent & Awning, which was established in 1911, was acquired in 1993.
In 1994, Olympic Sign was acquired, solidifying Rainier’s expansion into the sign and graphics industry.
In 1995, operations were moved to a 72,000 square foot facility in Tukwila, Washington.
Highflying Banners, a company specializing in Sunbrella appliquéd banners, was acquired in 2002.
Later in 2002, Rainier acquired Display Products, a company specializing in visual merchandising and digital wall coverings.
We continued to expand in 2004 with some exciting growth, including the purchase of the Markham Company in Orlando, Florida, an acquisition of Barrett Windows, an acquisition of our competitor in retail awnings and screens, EGE Sun Systems, and the purchase of Nesting Bird Yurts.
We moved into our 140,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility in July of 2008.
Rainier acquired Wave Guide Technologies in 2008 and began manufacturing retractable screen and awnings.
2009 started with the acquisition of Sunblockers NW, a screen and awning retailer in the Seattle marketplace and also the acquisition of The Big Print, a large format digital printing company also based in Seattle and well recognized for their Biographix™ product line.
2012 saw two exciting acquisitions: Big Ink, a Seattle company known for vehicle wraps and other graphic projects; and The SEC Group in Wilsonville, Oregon, expanding our presence in the commercial tent business.
And in 2013, we opened the doors of our new 200,000 square foot facility in Statesville, North Carolina, where we manufacture Rainier screens and awnings for our dealer network on the East Coast.
We like to brag about our years of experience and extensive product offerings, but we know that it takes more than a long history to satisfy customers’ high expectations today.
We talk about quality being timeless, and achieving that is a priority every single day. Our formal quality management system and ISO 9001:2008 certification reinforces our goal of being a great supplier to our many clients.
Thanks for your interest in Rainier – we look forward to hearing from you!
