Nordstrom’s visual merchandising team has a goal of always being different when it comes to window displays – and The Elements fabric window display fulfills that goal.

The classical elements that are essential to life are Earth, Water, Fire/Sun and Air.

Each is represented by printed sheer fabric and acrylic in different window vignettes created by Nordstrom’s designers.

Earth is represented by the color green, Water is blue, Fire/Sun is yellow and Air is a gray tone.

Multiple layers of fabric were used in each vignette to create depth and an ethereal feeling of connection to the human psyche in all of us.

To bring the designer’s vision to life, the digital team printed lots of sheer fabric on the Durst Rhotex – 11,980 linear feet to be exact – that translates into 2.7 miles of fabric, and over 250 hours of print time.

Next it was all cut into curvy shapes on the Zund cutter by our finishing crew.

The fun part was handled by the packaging team as they rolled the appropriate fabric panels onto tubes and packed them in boxes to be shipped to 117 Nordstrom stores nationwide.
