Rainier uses Sunbrella fabric in our awnings – the best and longest lasting awning fabric available. Sunbrella is a 100% solution dyed acrylic fabric. Sunbrella awnings are guaranteed not to fade for 10 years!
Sunbrella shade fabrics are high in UPF protection and are recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation as an aid in the prevention of sun-induced damage to the skin as a part of a complete sun protection regimen, including regular use of sunscreen.
What Makes Sunbrella Fabric So Special?
Sunbrella’s superior color pigments are added during the production of fade-resistant fibers. The final result is Sunbrella yarn and fabric with color throughout that won’t fade or wash away – even with extreme exposure to the sun or cleaning with bleach!
In ordinary fabrics, dyes are added to the surface of the yarn or fabric. The color only penetrates the outer layer and washes out or fades away over time. It’s the difference between an apple and a carrot: other fabrics are like an apple, which has a brightly colored peel, but no pigment in the core. The color in Sunbrella fabrics penetrates all the way to the core (like a carrot) ensuring years of vibrant color and performance.
Care and Cleaning
Sunbrella pigments are stable enough to be cleaned with bleach, but most stains can be removed with mild soap and water and a soft bristled brush. Download a PDF of the complete cleaning instructions.
