The Raven
The Raven Features
- 6 Foot Standard Wall Height
- Large Standard Windows
- Aircraft Grade Galvanized Steel Tension Cable
- Beefiest Lattice Wall - Stronger Than the Competition
"How can we modify the Eagle to create a yurt that is competitively priced - yet maintains the Rainier standard of quality?"
That question generated the criteria the manu-craftering team followed to design the Raven.
Frankly, we failed, repeatedly, at first. We just couldn’t reduce enough of our costs.
We wanted to keep using the tall walls… and the awesome (but over-engineered) compression ring… and the stainless steel tension cable … and the super heavy-duty, durable fabrics… and the radial seamed roof… and the full size real door… and- well, you get the picture.
So we studied our competitors, and found that they all build really nice products – hats off to them! The reality, it seemed, is you just can’t buy a poorly built yurt at this level.
Fortunately, we didn’t quit there, and eventually the drive of our design team to create the best quality, and competitively priced, yurt paid off. We believe the Raven represents the best value in the marketplace.
Feature for feature, we meet or exceed any of our competitors. Then we add world class manufacturing techniques, state of the art equipment, and the best warranty with the backing of a 115 (that’s not a typo) year old company. The result, in our humble opinion, speaks for itself. So check it out!

"What a wonderful product the Raven Yurt we put up at Camp Westminster is. This was a mission project for our church with bunch of weekend do-it-yourselfers that went together like clock work. I knew when we tacked up the story tape and were within 3/16's, everything was golden! Thanks again for a great product and our hats off the team that put together the assembly manual / platform drawing."—Camp Westminster,

Read more about the details of the lattice system as you scroll down.
Standard Windows
The Raven comes with two of the largest standard windows in the industry.
Our standard window size is 49″ wide by 49″ high.
Each window has three parts:
- A sewn in fiberglass screen
- A completely removable window made from 20mil clear vinyl that is UV resistant, flame retardant and secured with 2″ marine grade velcro.
- A weather flap secured by marine grade zippers in a unique flap to protect them from UV degradation.
Door
Our custom made solid wood door is constructed of Douglas Fir.
It has an inset wood lower panel and a half light 1/4″ clear acrylic upper panel – pre-hung in a laminated frame with solid brass hinges and a high quality lockset.
Door size is 36″w x 68″ high
Roof
The Raven roof comes with a 10 year warranty.
Constructed from 18oz vinyl coated polyester with a clear acrylic topcoat to prevent out gassing.
This structural fabric is UV and mildew resistant, easy to clean and designed to last.
All seams are made with our computer controlled RF (Radio Frequency) welder for the most accurate & reliable seal.
Aircraft Grade Tension Cable
If this thing breaks, you have a big problem – that’s why this cable is rated to a breaking strength of 7,000 pounds.
Made from 1/4″ galvanized aircraft grade steel, this cable is pre-cut to the proper circumference and joined to a continuous loop using 2 ton aluminum ferrules.
The Raven Compression Ring

The Raven compression ring is strong and elegant.
It is built from laminated pieces of MSR 2400 Douglas Fir and through-bolted for extra strength.
The inner ring remains faceted for a unique visual look.
The Beefiest Lattice Wall System Made
Your yurt is only as strong as the weakest link – and that is the lattice wall that supports the entire structure. That’s why we have the thickest, beefiest, baddest lattice in the industry…
Crafted with clear, mixed grain, kiln dried, hand sanded lengths of the finest 3/4″ by 1-1/2″ northwest Douglas Fir that are treated with Verde Oil.
Verde is the first of its kind. It is a 100% sustainable, petroleum free oil finish with no heavy metal compounds, no odor, and no offensive fumes. Verde is a ZERO-VOC finish made with new age vegetable ester solvents, tough plant based resins, and high quality Brazilian rosewood oil – and it offer 99% UV protection for wood in interior and exterior applications.
Wall Fabric Construction
The outer walls of the Raven are constructed from 15oz vinyl laminated polyester to make it strong and easy-to-clean.
It is waterproof, mildew & soil resistant and fire retardant.
The inner wall is lined with a lightweight 6oz polyester tenting fabric treated to be water repellant and flame & mildew retardant.
Dome
Our dome is made from 1/4″ thick clear Plexi-Glass.
You can have a fixed dome, or add the optional dome opener for added ventilation.
A tinted version is also available if you live in a very sunny area.
Rafters
Clear, hand-selected, MSR 2400 kiln dried Douglas Fir. Rafters are sanded and finished to take the greatest advantage of the warm, natural beauty of the wood.
Each rafter is individually treated with Verde Oil.
Wall and Roof Attachment System
Drawing from work in the marine industry, we engineered a unique system to securely attach the wall to the roof.
Using a stainless steel cable that is sealed into a flap section of the roof as an attachment point, the wall is hung with nylon “jib hanks” used in the sailing industry.
This makes for a quick & easy attachment as the hanks are designed to twist & snap onto the cable.
The edge of the roof has a kevlar cable sewn into it using weatherproof Tenara thread – (which is a fancy name for Gortex) – and this cable uses a ratchet device to tension the roof securely around the yurt.
We think its a pretty neat system!
Roof
The Raven roof upgrade comes with a 15 year warranty.
Constructed from 28oz vinyl coated polyester with a clear acrylic topcoat to prevent out gassing.
This structural fabric is UV and mildew resistant, easy to clean and designed to last.
All seams are made with our computer controlled RF (Radio Frequency) welder for the most accurate & reliable seal.
Rainier Reflect Insulation
Rainier uses the top grade of low-e reflective insulation.
It is manufactured using a polyethlyene foam core with scrim reinforced double sided aluminum facings to reflect heat in both directions – that keeps you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
According to the specs, it reflects up to 97% of radiant energy and has the capability to have an R value of up to 11…
But to be fair, that R number can be misleading… This stuff is a 1/4″ thick, so it will not work as well as insulation that is 6″ thick, no matter how hi-tech the reflective part is.
We equal or exceed what the other guys use – so we are all pretty comparable in this area – just don’t be taken in by high R value numbers or you will be disappointed – and probably a little cooler than you expected…
Edges are finished.
Engineered for High Wind and Snow Loads
Rainier Yurts are built tough – no extra charge.
All Rainier Yurts are designed for a minimum wind load of 95 miles per hour and can achieve snow loads up to 280 pounds per square foot.
